DHA

The DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) (C22:6 n-3) or cervonic acid is a long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid of the Omega 3 series. DHA is the Omega 3 fatty acid wich is present in the highest concentration in humans.

Because of its crucial role in membrane architecture, it is present in all human and animal cells.

It is essential for the correct functioning of cells and the maintenance of biological equilibrium.

DHA also helps the prevention of cardiac and circulatory complications and the risks associated with elevated cholesterol (arrhythmia, thrombosis, atherosclerosis).

It is also implicated in anti-inflammatory and immune mechanisms. It has been established that low DHA erythrocyte levels are associated with numerous diseases, notably of a neurological type (AIDS, Alzheimer's disease, depression).

Applications Applications Santé des Lipides (ASL) is able to propose a broad range of products containing glycerophospholipids (GPL), with a high level quality up to 95%, with a high rate of DHA: GPL-DHA®. GPL-DHA® is particularly important for:

  • Infants (notably premature infants) and young children
  • Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers who need to meet requirements for the cerebral development of their child
  • Sportsman in order to optimize performances and to improve recovery time
  • The person in overweight
  • The elderly in order to prevent cognitive decline and visual acuity
  • Respiratory insufficiency (ASL patent)

GPL-DHA produced by ASL is an amphiphilic surface active compound which can be integrated into any medium, whether it is hydrophilic (aqueous) or hydrophobic (oily), without the use of an emulsifier or high shearing forces.

Advantages of the GPL-DHA ® compared with Omega 3 oils (EPA+DHA)

  • A great bio-availability
  • Does not interfere with the metabolism of arachidonic acid (ARA) (Omega 6) contrary to the oil form
  • Better stability with oxidation than the oil forms
  • Remains stable over time
  • Is a quasi-universal and natural ingredient for the preparation of various food products
  • Does not give gastric increase
  • Helps to improve respiratory function (patent pending)
  • Slightly contains EPA (Oméga 3) whose role is discussed
